HISTORY OF COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION The Department of Mass Communication was established in 1979, four years the dedication of New Era University. During that time, it was a Program under the College of Arts and Sciences. A number of courses existed with it namely, Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Students were enrolled in a general education system wherein they were taking the general curriculum in their First and Second Years, and they would go on to their different majors in their Third and Fourth Year. The first Mass Communication Class was composed of only twelve students who later became the first graduates of the Program. The CEM Building served as their first school building. Together with the celebration of the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s Centennial Year, the Mass Communication Program has finally achieved one of its greatest dream – to have this as a College. DEAR EVAN HANSEN, My First Musical Production From the Curriculum of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication in the 1 st Year 2 nd Sem, the Intro to Communication (Comm 100-14) is one of the list of the subjects. This subject was all about the Media of how it started and what the media is all about. Media includes every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV Radio and internet. By discussing the types of the media, from the College Department of Bachelor of Arts in Communication they had been started the Musical Plays to be performed on stage of communication students in this subject a long years ago. BACK IN THE DAY There was a time when you only have to spent a certain amount of years for studying. The normal years you need to spend in school is just 15 years or 16 years. That starts with 1 year in in Kindergarten, 6 years in Elementary, 4 years in High School, and 4 or 5 years in College depending on what course or major you will take. This has been the norm here in the Philippines for the past few decades until the K-12 comes along. A lot of questions come into mind upon the introduction of this new educational system. Questions like, "what is this about?", "why do we need this?", "is this necessary?", "why do we need to add more years in school?"...and such. Every year there's a musical theater in the college of communication. Musical theater is under of COMM100, the first major subject of B.A Communication. Musicals are fun, entertaining and thrilling experiences for the student. Musical play are not just fun, they also have very real and measurable educational benefits and it also helps us to build confidence and improves learning skills. My first musical play entitled DEH (Dear Evan Hansen) it was really memorable. The Cast of Dear Evan Hansen. (The dear evan hansen is about a high school senior with severe social anxiety which inhibits his ability to connect with other people and make friends). Being a stage manager is like being one of the director once the performances start. Stage managing was a wonderful experience, but it was also a big responsibility. In 1978, the collegiate department opened in diliman quezon, city occupying the third and fourth floors of the evangelical college buildings. The first and second levels served as the training centers of the church for would be ministers. Twelve Collegiate courses were initially offered. The following year august 2014, The Mass Communication Program formally started operating as a seperate college that offers the degree under the nomenclature, Bachelor of arts in Communication in October 2015, The college liberal arts program will force another PACUCOA preliminary visit for level II accreditation.
